About St John The Divine Greek Orthodox Church

new church

The Greek word Φιλοξενία (Philoxenia) means Hospitality. For over 90 years, St. John the Divine has been proudly serving and ministering to the needs of the Orthodox Faithful in Jacksonville. Quite simply, our goal is to witness and share the teachings, compassion and hospitality of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His Church with you.

On behalf of our membership, we invite you to attend Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 10:00 am. Our Hospitality Committee members will be delighted to guide you through the service and introduce you to the community afterwards during our coffee hour. Our congregation, although having its roots in Hellenism, is composed of many diverse ethnicities, including Arabic, Russian, Albanian, African-American, Ethiopian, Serbian, Korean, etc.

Whether you are an Orthodox Christian arriving in the Jacksonville area and looking for a new parish to call home, or are just interested in learning more about our Faith–and your own Christian roots–we invite you to explore this website and visit with us. Thank you and may the Grace and Love of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you.

The Greek Culture

Greece is a country of great beauty and rich history. Greece's rich and tumultuous past has greatly influenced their culture from religion, food, music, family, customs and traditions to even the way they conduct business. In general, Greeks are particularly proud of their culture and speak of their country with an intense passion, feeling that the culture in Greece is a definition of their national and ethnic belonging.

Traditions, family, religion, music, language, food and wines are the major composites of the culture in Greece and constitute the base for those who wish to visit and understand today's country.
